"Ah so" is a fake chinese greeting made up by white folks and became
popularized by newspapers in the 1870s California. It is supposed to
be what chinamen say to greet each other. In reality, "ah so" is not
chinese at all.
This is roughly equivalent to what american indian supposedly say to
greet each other --- "How".

I know, that's why I wrote what I did (use freetranslation.com if you
don't get it).

It is, however, what Germans actually say (extremely close) to express
the sentiment of "eureka!"

What does the phrase "ah so" mean in chinese?
It's not Chinese; it's an abbreviated form of a Japanese phrase, "Ah,
sou desuka?" which means something like "is that so?" It's often used
as a stereotyped reference to Japanese.

"Ossu" is a Japanese slang word, mostly used by males, roughly like
English "Yo!". It's emphatic, and can be used to get someone's
attention or to agree with something. It has nothing to do with "ah,
sou."
